I don’t often write things like this, but I feel sickened by the murder of Charlie Kirk.
He was someone who openly communicated with people holding different political views. Something we desperately need. And his views were uncomfortable to many on the left.
For this, one of them assassinated him in front of his wife and children.
While many people are as saddened as I am, other people say words to the effect of “it’s wrong, but…”
Others are celebrating.
The most evil ones wish for further violence.
All of these reactions are disgusting, and very wrong. A man was murdered because he said things those on the left disagreed with.
“You have no idea what you have just unleashed across this country. In this world,” his wife said later, “you have no idea of the fire you have ignited…”
She was right. I feel the fire, too. I think we’ve really reached a turning point.
The assassination of a man I never knew has changed something in me. Few murders of public figures have affected me in this way. I clearly understand that far-left extremists are prepared to kill anyone who opposes their ideas.
It’s bad enough that the government in Britain imprisons people for social media posts they disagree with; now there are people who will kill people for having alternative points of view.
His Christian beliefs inspired him, but he didn’t blindly follow dogma; he thought for himself.
Many on the left have accused him of hating gays (just to choose one example).
This is not true.
He welcomed them to his debates. Something some Christians criticised him for.
Stephen King tweeted: “He advocated stoning gays to death. Just sayin.”
Also not true.
In the video King was referring to, Charlie Kirk was showing how some people cherry pick biblical passages.
Later, King admitted he was wrong and deleted the tweet. But damage was done.
Few of Charlie Kirk’s critics have listened to him. I have, so I’m not deceived by the lies being told about him.
I wish people would use their own eyes and ears to discover what is true in the world. And then use their own minds to think it through.
Of course, it’s easier to uncritically repeat what others have said.
We need more Charlie Kirks, and this assassination may well awaken them.
